Dongkyun has worked at the Samsung Electronics CTO Office and the Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT). He managed the SAIT Open Innovation Group, which initiated new technology themes and global strategic collaborations. In 2014, he established Global Strategic Collaborations with the world’s leading researchers in various fields, including Deep Learning, Meta-Photonics, Stretchable Electronics, Neuromorphic Computing, 2D Electronics, and Quantum Computing.
In 2015, he recognized the significance of AI computing and the potential of the Neural Processor Unit (NPU), leading to the establishment of the NPU Lab in Silicon Valley. This lab was instrumental in developing the first Samsung NPU, which was released in 2019. In 2016, he was dispatched to Silicon Valley as the program manager for SAIT America, overseeing all SAIT research and development and Open Innovation activities in the United States.
Dongkyun continued working in the NPU Lab until its closure in February 2024. His extensive experience in research and development, as well as Open Innovation, serves as a vital link to help companies accelerate their growth through technological and business innovations.
Before joining Samsung in 2005, he worked at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Dongkyun holds a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of California, San Diego.
